Dressed to Impress

Outfits styled by me... compliments of the amazing Polyvore.com! Yay! Go, PoVo! Go, PoVo! Haha.

“Why go through life as milk when you can be mocha almond fudge? –Stacy London, What Not To Wear

As New Years fast approaches, resolutions are in full force. I must admit: a goals list is my absolute favorite part of ringing in the New Year; and I am more determined than ever! I am super ecstatic to say the least. If inspirational little Olive and Elliot can fulfill their dreams, why can’t we? Haha. In addition to a number of other resolutions, one of them includes having oodles of fun with my attire.

Written by the editor-in-chief of Collegefashion.net, Zephyr, “25 Reasons Why You Should Dress Up” is a nifty editorial with compelling incentives to dress up on a daily basis, not just on special occasions. When I say write, “dress up,” I literally don’t mean wearing a dress per se but rather sporting an outfit that makes you feel fun, free, and most importantly FIERCE. Although an “oh so comfy” pair of sweatpants are never to be completely abandoned, there is nothing wrong with dolling up every now and then just for fun. You are fabulous and you owe it to yourself. Life is a celebration, so why not have a party every so often (… or every day if you’re up for it. Haha.)?

Happy New Years Eve, doll faces! May your evening and year be filled with  joy, love,  and peace.

With anticipation,

Dani

P.S. Below is a demo video just recently uploaded from Michelle Phan’s YouTube Channel specifically on New Years Eve makeup. Enjoy, muffins!

Wam. Glam. Thank You, Ma’am.

Good evening, sweet peas! I hope that your day went amazingly well! Entirely enthused by Shannon‘s stellar new post, “How-To X 2: Rice Water for Healthy Skin and Making a Good Video,” on successful video tutorials, I checked out Michelle Phan’s Channel on YouTube.

If you have not already done so, please check out Shannon’s post. One word, folks: uh-mazing. Not does her post provide valuable guidelines for an excellent video (and a super clean face), but it contains fundamental pointers to a booming blog as well.

When I first visited Michelle Phan‘s YouTube webpage, I came across a demo  entitled, “Holiday Glam.” As New Years Eve fast approaches, I could not pass up the chance to post this seasonal seminar on beauty. Why not leave 2009 with a bang? Plus, I finally discovered what that curve of my upper lip is called. (It’s called a “Cupid’s Bow.” Adorable, right? Haha.) Without further adieu, “Holiday Glam”…

Isn’t she just terrific? Instructive and intriguing. The best of both worlds. The following are several picks to accomplish this simply stunning look.

No. 2 de Polyvore.com. To visit the original website where all items were found, please click on the image above.

Makeup: Due to my fondness of the infamous “shadowy eye,” I chose to use a dark shade of plum, which gives the impression of an eggplant-like hue. In keeping with this vibe, I also decided to apply a warm shade of white that appears especially creamy.

Dress: With its polished design and champagne color, this lovely cocktail dress is ideal for any holiday get-together as it is both fun and sleek.

Accessories: While perusing various pieces, I came across this crazy cute vintage deer brooch. Fitting for both the dress and the occasion, this fashion ornament just seems to work.

Have a safe and fun-filled evening, muffins! …and a Happy New Year! May this impending year be the best one yet!

Happily,

Dani

Pretty in Pink

Posted in fashion by Dani on December 28, 2009

Mondo apologies, sugar plums! With all of the holiday decorating, mall shopping, and envelope stuffing, I lost track of last week and (sadly) thus my blog. No worries though! I hope that everyone had a terrific Christmas!

As New Years draws near, an overabundance of thoughts race through my head, including the perfect New Year’s Eve attire. Even if you’re spending the evening at home with a few close friends watching musical performances from the Top 40 in the swanky Times Square and gobbling popcorn (…, which sounds super cute and cozy to me), the night brings the opportunity to have fun with your wardrobe, ringing in the new year with sparkle, smiles, and style. Inspired by Emanuel Ungaro’s Spring 2010 RTW looks (Yes. I am in love with this line, but I can’t help it! Haha.), I styled the outfit below. Collages + Fashion = An unlimited amount of fun. Haha.

“Over the years, I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” –Yves Saint Laurent

This outfit is my very first created on Polyvore.com!

1. Crumpet Sloppy Joe Cashmere Sweater ($322)– Due to its hue along with its simple yet chic assymetrical silhouette, I thought this sweater would make the perfect basic in almost any instance.

2. Unisex Ring ($20) – Once again, this piece of jewelry is both elegant but simple. I love to wear rings like these (solid and substantial) on my thumb for an edgy touch.

3. Charlotte Bag by Paul Boutique ($85) – This flourescent pink clutch is both bright and bubbly but also classic owing to its quilted design. FYI: This purse was actually the inspirational for the entirety of my outfit. I have a thing for quilted clutches and now (apparently) hot pink. Haha.

4. Hot Pink Pumps ($76.49) – Although matching shoes and bags do not stand as a steadfast rule for every occasion, it just seemed to work in this instance. Plus, from the bold shade to the razor-sharp shape, these pair of puppies are just too fiery to say no to! Haha.

5. Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal-Embellished Tiger Cuff  ($225) –  In keeping with Teen Vogue, animal prints are making everyday avenues into street safaris. As a result, who says that these patterns must merely be confined to your clothes and footwear? Why not your arm too? Haha.

6. Fortune Nail Lacquer ($2.80) – In attempt not to overkill on neon, I thought a splash of gold nail polish would be a subtle contrast to the rest of the outfit.

7. Daisy by Marc Jacobs ($72) Daisy by Marc Jacobs is my signature fragrance, so I just had to include the perfume in my very first style design. Haha.

8. Barry M. Dazzle Dust ($7.05) – Despite the fact that I am not entirely sure if this cosmetic item is blush, eye shadow, or lipstick, this color is just the thing to give your cheeks a slight pop of pink.

9. Sephora Colorful Mat Mono Eyeshadow ($5) – With several applications of this slate grey eye shadow, Sephora’s makeup would give you the ultimate smoky eye, which is ideal for any night on the town.

10. Armani “Eyes to Kill” Mascara ($28) –  Mascara is the cherry on top of a perfect face application.

… and there you have it: my earliest Polyvore style attempt. (Merci, PoVo.) So, what do you think, my loves? Yea or nay?

Have a fabulous evening, darlings! Four three more days until New Years Day. The anticipation is killing me! Haha.

Sparkle & shine,

Dani

BTW: I added some looks from the marvelous Olsenboye look book on the last post. Bursting at the seams with fun candy-colored pastels designs, these outfits are more than spring-ready (…, which I am so looking forward to. Haha.) and age-appropriate as well.

Launch Their Line

Posted in fashion by Dani on December 21, 2009

Guess what, darlings? None other than the fabulous Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen have started a new Juniors line at JcPenney called, “Olsenboye,” which introduces an assortment of layers, blazers, and long-sleeved prints. However, according to this duo’s Good Morning America appearance this fall, their line is not going to officially launch until February. While their clothes usually sell between $20 and $50, there is a mammoth sale amongst us, which makes me super happy. Haha.

Please don’t forget to see their incredibly adorable commercial above. It just gives me the “warm and fuzzies” all over! Haha.

Have a fantastic evening… and don’t forget to stay dry! Haha.

Good night,

Dani

P.S. Below are several outfits from their lookbook. All photos below were found on the “Yow! Yow!” blog. Give it a looksy, doll faces!

I love the outfit in the middle. Who could say no to coral candy stripes and leggings?

The outfit on the right is so chic. I would so wear that! Haha.

With these bold neons, both of these outfits are super cute.

It Takes Two

Losers are people who are so afraid of not winning, they don’t even try. –Grandpa, Little Miss Sunshine

Morning, rays of sunshine! No two film festival favorites capture the mantra above quite like Little Miss Sunshine and Billy Elliot. Like a number of indie motion pictures, this cinematic duo requires their viewers to blow out nearly a dozen and a half birthday candles prior to watching (…if you get my drift. Ages 17+). If you pass that requirement, terrific! Watch away… Haha.

Little Miss Sunshine captured my heart several years ago with its undeniable sincerity and inspiring determination. For one reason or another, I hope it captures your heart too.

Despite all of the social and socio-economic adversity against him, Billy Elliot follows his dreams of becoming a ballet dancer, making this film simply heart-warming. Now, I must warn you, this movie is definitely a tear-jerker towards the end but definitely worthwhile. I guarantee it.

So, the question is: What’s your favorite indie film(s)?

Happy, happy Saturday!

Be you (= amazing),

Dani

A Whimsical Wonderland

"Alice in Wonderland"-inspired scene was auctioned at Bonhams from the Fortnum & Mason store in London, England. Very whimsical. (Photo: Sebastian Meyer/Getty Images)

Good evening, honey bees! I hope that your week went incredibly well and that your weekend is going to go even better! Movie reviews on television are putting me in the mood for some cinema sighting. While I do have several motion pictures in mind for the holiday season, I am super ecstatic to watch Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland next spring.

I have a thing for film adaptations of literature. A definite impetus for enrolling in my nineteenth century British Literature class next year is the reading list, including Alice Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.  From dolls to dressmaking, with such a tremendous influence in pop culture, this literary classic must be  worth reading at least once (although I haven’t read it… yet. Haha.).

One of my favorite Alice-inspired creations is Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?” (Love her!) Not only is it fantastically fun, but the music video is also light and chic, bursting at the seams with pastel ruffles and Vivienne Westwood-esque heels. Speaking of fashion, Vogue published an absolutely fabulous spread on Wonderland wear several years ago. I think you’d like it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was great, so I cannot wait to see Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (especially in 3-D). Haha.

What is your favorite film adaptation? Do tell!

Again, have a wonderful weekend!

Good night,

Dani

BTW: If you have any post requests, please let me know with a comment. Don’t be shy, I would love to hear from you!

Twice As Nice

Happy, Happy Wednesday, darlings!  The week is officially almost over; and you know what today is. That’s right. “What Gives? Wednesday” (…based off of  Chicago Social Magazine’s article, “What Gives?”)! Smart trend of the sixteenth? Aviator Nation.

I must say, I have been waiting to tell you folks about this SoCal-based unisex clothing company for almost a week. On the lookout for stylish sweaters, I stumbled upon its website last week.

Created by Paige Mycoskie, Aviator Nation is the product of her love of aviator glasses, but I mean… c’mon, those shades are classics and always au courant. Haha.  From tanks to truckers, this business exemplies the Golden State‘s surfing culture through their items’ cool color schemes and casual cuts. Although not all of their clothes go to charity, Aviator Nation has a specific set of clothing articles in which a portion of those purchases goes to AIDS research. Isn’t that rad? Haha.

Ooh… and please take a look at this collaboration between Aviator Nation and TOMS! So neat!

Stay sunny,

Dani

White Hot

I admit it, muffins. I have a new crush. It was love at first sight with Emanuel Ungaro’s Spring 2010 Ready-To-Wear line. This morning, as I was searching for outerwear for the winter, I came across the latest collection by Emanuel Ungaro. Crammed with a series of stunning drappery and season-appropriate flourescents, these clothes are both fun yet chic, wearable yet fashion-forward. They just scream warm seasons! (Spring and summer, oh, how I love thee so!) Now, I must warn you, loves: these outfits are not for the faint of heart. Below is a video preview of the collection.

What is up with me and neons? I just cannot help it! They’re just so boldly enchanting. Haha.

Have a lovely wintry evening, doll faces!

Stay fierce,

Dani

Music Soul Child

Hell0, darlings! Yesterday, my friend and I drove around the city together in search of vintage sweaters as well as mouth-watering yet affordable food. While in

her car, she played her brand new Priscilla Renae album entitled, “Jukebox.”

With catchy pop and techno beats along with Priscilla’s oftentimes hopelessly romantic sonnet-like lyrics, a music listener cannot help but bob his or her head and sing along to the tunes. This YouTube-based starlet reminds me of a cross between Corinne Bailey Rae and Ingrid Michaelson with a dash of Salt n’ Pepa and sass. In addition to Corinne Bailey Rae and Salt n’ Pepa,  I just love Ingrid’s music. Very Vh1. Haha.

Not only does she have an absolutely gorgeous voice brimming with charm, but she also: 1) writes her own songs and 2) plays the guitar! How cool is she?

While she currently has a hit music video out called, Dollhouse (The music video is super cute… totally digging the bright colors and Barbie-esque theme.), I really love her acoustic sets, like the video below, which is a segment of a mini-concert from a song off of her actual album, one of my faves, “Lovesick.” It is too adorable for words.

…and voilà! Isn’t she fabulous? Enough said posted?

Have a superb day evening, muffins! Write to you tomorrow! Haha.

Peace,

Dani

Snap, Crackle, Pop

Posted in music by Dani on December 11, 2009

Good afternoon, muffins! As I surfed YouTube key terms in search of new music yesterday afternoon, I began to become rather nostalgic of my favorite music video genre: teen pop circa 1997-2004. With all of those pop princesses and boy bands, who could resist? Aah… good times. Below are some of my fave of all time:

Backstreet Boys – “I Want It That Way”

Who can say no to an airport and matching white outfits? Haha.

Britney Spears – “Oops!… I Did It Again”

You know I just had to include Britney Spears’s instant-hit, “Oops!… I Did It Again.” Astronaut suits. Spewing fire flames. Titanic references. Gotta love it. Haha.

Christina Aguilera – “Genie In A Bottle”

Who could forget Christina’s first hit, “Genie In A Bottle”? I’m a genie in a bottle, baby! Haha.

NSYNC – “It’s Gonna Be Me”

I just can’t help laughing hysterically when I watch this music video. From the unforgettable choreography to the Ken-like features and epic brawl with the military action figures, this music video is hilariously entertaining from start to finish.

What was your favorite nineties teen pop musical artist or music video? I would love to know!

Happy Friday,

Dani
